Starcraft 2 Terran Structures

Starcraft 2 Terran Units and Structures ---> Terran Structures (you are here)

In this post, I will be covering all the basic Starcraft 2 Terran structures (build with the "B" key in game) along with adding in their functions and some cool strategies.

Let's get started!

Command Center

Cost: 400 Minerals (provides 11 supplies)
Produces: SCVs
Allows: Barracks, Engineering Bay
Upgradeable to Orbital Command and Planetary Fortress

The Command Center is the main Terran base. It produces workers and workers are able to bring harvested minerals to it.

The Command Center has a few unique abilities. It can lift off and carry up to 5 SCVs in the air (although it moves slowly). As a result, players can prevent Zerglings from picking off lonely expansions simply by lifting off.

The unique feature of the Command Center is that it can be upgraded into the Orbital Command and Planetary Fortress.

The Orbital Command upgrade costs 150 minerals and allows the Command Center to use Scanner Sweep, which reveals any part of the map and all cloaked units. It can also produce MULEs for 50 energy, which harvest 270 minerals in their 90 second lifespan.

The Planetary Fortress upgrade costs 150 minerals and 150 vespene gas and turns the Command Center into an automated defensive structure. It can attack ground units with splash damage can deals quite a bit of damaged. Most players only use this upgrade for far-away expansions, as a Planetary Fortress and a few Missile Turrets can fend off any sneak attacks.

Supply Depot

Cost: 100 minerals
Provides: 8 Supplies

The Supply Depot provides supplies for the Terran race. It also has the unique ability to move up and down (moving it down allows units to walk over it), making it an easy way to wall in your base, which is a key Terran strategy.

Refinery

Cost: 75 minerals
Allows: Harvesting of vespene gas

There is nothing else unique about the Refinery.

Barracks

Cost: 150 minerals
Requires: Command Center
Produces: Marines, Marauders, Reapers, and Ghosts
Allows: Factory, Bunker, and Ghost Academy
Can attach to Tech Lab or Reactor

The Barracks is the site of Infantry production. It is also effectively serves as part of the wall composed of Starcraft 2 Terran structures.

With a Reactor attached, the Barracks can train 2 Marines at once. With a Tech Lab attached, it can produce Marauders and Reapers. A Ghost Academy unlocks Ghost production.

When the Tech Lab is attached to the Barracks, it can research:

-Combat Shield (+10 Marine health; costs 100 minerals, 100 vespene gas).

-Stimpacks (+damage and movement speed on use at the cost of Infantry Health; 100 minerals, 100 vespene gas)

- Concussive Shells (Marauder attacks slow non-Massive ground units by 50%; 50 minerals, 50 vespene gas)

- Nitro Packs (increases Reaper movement speed; 100 minerals, 100 vespene gas)

Engineering Bay

Cost: 125 minerals
Requires: Command Center
Allows: Missile Turret, Sensor Tower

The Engineering Bay is the site of research for all Terran Infantry Weapons and Armor (anything produced at the Barracks). It has the most upgrades available out of all the Starcraft 2 Terran structures aside for the Armory.

It can also research Building Armor (150 minerals, 150 vespene gas), which increases the armor of buildings by 2. This is not worth it generally unless the enemy is massing Mutalisks.

The Engineering Bay researches Hi-Sec Auto-Tracking (100 minerals, 100 vespene gas) which adds +1 to the range of all Turrets (including the Raven's) and the Planetary Fortress. This is also not worth it unless you are using Missile Turrets to keep the enemy penned in.

Finally, the Engineering Bay can research Neosteel Frames (100 minerals, 100 vespene gas), which increases the amount of space in the bunker by 2 (normally it is 4).

Missile Turret

Cost: 100 minerals
Requires: Engineering Bay

The Missile Turret is a detector and automatically attacks air units. It is quite powerful and has much more HP and attack than it did in the original Starcraft.

If your enemy is harassing your mineral line with air units, this Starcraft 2 Terran Structure is a must-have.

Sensor Tower

Cost: 125 minerals, 100 vespene gas
Requires: Engineering Bay

The Sensor Tower has the unusual function of being able to see enemies up to a distance of 30 (Siege Tanks have a range of 13 to compare) moving in the distance. You can't see exactly what they are, just the number of total units and where they are going. It acts a lot like a radar dish.

And that's all for the Starcraft 2 Terran Structures, basic edition. I have gone over all the advanced Terran structures in a second article.
